Remote access to DVS Lab computers

We are just beginning to offer remote access to the computers in the DVS Lab using a client software called Splashtop. Email to get added to the list of authorized users [requires a Duke NetID and password]. After you have been registered in our system, follow the instructions in this PDF guide to download the Splashtop Business client software and get connected.

Popular Data and Visualization Software

Bloomberg

Online access to Bloomberg is now available for current members of the Duke community. Full details are available at: //guides.library.duke.edu/bloomberg

Tableau

Students can request a free year-long [renewable] Tableau Desktop license through Tableau for Students. Faculty and staff, if they are doing non-profit research [not Duke administrative work] or teaching, can request a free license through Tableau for Teaching. Everyone else, if you can't afford a standard Tableau license [not available through OIT], will need to use Tableau Public, which is free and fully-functional, but only allows you to save your work to the Tableau Public server.

Other Sources of Data Software

Duke-Licensed Data and Visualization Software

Duke students, faculty, and staff can download university-licensed software for use on their own computers. If you have questions about accessing and installing software, please email the site-license office at .

Virtual Computing

Virtual Computing Manager [VCM] is a service providing the Duke community with easy access to virtual software packages and virtual machine [VM] reservations. There are basic operating system VMs as well as VMs with common applications pre-installed. For more details, explore the help page or contact the OIT Service Desk for assistance.
