I cant install chrome-remote-desktop in Ubuntu 20.04 due to the dependency python2 (Ubuntu devs remove python2 support from distro). How can this problem be solved?

I have spent hours trying to get this to work. I did get it installed and functioning but as soon as I reboot my machine I loose access to my machine and I get stuck in a login loop. I had to do a fresh install of 20.04.

Google needs to develop a comparable release!!! All 8 of my other machines (Mac & PC) run CRD but this one

Had the same problem. For anyone else experiencing it, I was able to recover by dropping to a tty (ctrl-alt-F2), logging in, then running these commands -

sudo apt purge chrome-remote-desktop
sudo apt autoremove
reboot

I'm not sure if it was the chrome-remote-desktop package, or something in the dependencies, but that will clean them both up and it solved the problem for me

I had a similar problem with Ubuntu MATE 18.04. Problem seems to be that you can't have two sessions with the same desktop.
To exit the login loop: open a terminal (CTRL-ALT-F2) and login
Then "sudo service chrome-remote-desktop stop"
Then CTRL-ALT-F7 should get you to your login screen which should work normally.
I then installed XFCE as an alternate desktop.
Told chrome-remote-desktop to use XFCE rather than MATE with a file called:
".chrome-remote-desktop-session" in my home directory.
Contents of that file:exec /usr/sbin/lightdm-session "startxfce4"
Reboot and you should be all set.

I have the same issue, I can install Chrome remote desktop but I can not reboot my machine because gmd login screen is looping. I am not really sure this is a Chrome Desktop issue or Ubuntu bug. but I need it ASAP.

I am able to install and use it on ubuntu 20.04 LTS as of now, but it is very unstable and I end up ssh'ing to the box to blast a systemctl restart chrome-remote-desktop.service fairly regularly. Its fine over my lan for now but its really irritating that its not dependable.
