I think this app just be fine, because this app is most useful for the people who want to purchase this app. If you don't want to purchase this app, I don't recommend you to use this app as a daily tool. First, all the music will play randomly, so you can't choose listening any music by yourself. Second, It will insert advertisement sometimes and you can not skip it. Third, you only can skip five songs once a time in 1 hour. [ If I remembered correctly.] However, if you decide to buy this app, it;s gonna be a good choice.

For the most part, the app / service is great for music exploration.

There are, however, Penthouse porn sounds as well as Porn soundtracks. If you know where and how to search. This was discovered when I searched my 15 year old's phone.

Parental controls would only block / allow the entire app. Searches, Playlists, and Explicit material are not able to be blocked while allowing material you may find appropriate.

So I think first we need to set straight the fact that as long as you have the Spotify app, you can place a content filter easily, restricting explicit songs from your child's library if that is what you prefer. This is a great app, certainly better then the alternatives [Pandora, Amazon Music, etc.]. I think really this app is good for anybody who is old enough to understand how it works. If you feel uncomfortable with your chikd listening to music that may be innapropriate, just talk to them. Children and teens love to talk about their favorite bands and artists, even better when you enjoy it with them. I feel sometimes on this website parents can be a little bit overprotective, and they need to start talking to your kids instead of immeadiately placing restrictions on things.

You see parents on here with "18+ HORRIBLE, NOT FAMILY-FRIENDLY, MY KID DID THIS AND THAT!" but there's a simple solution to this. Yes, they have access to any song and Spotify is going to add a filter eventually. But for now, do what I do with my kids. I always check to see what they're listening to. Anything labeled "explicit" remove immediately, punish them after. Check their search history. Anything, but let them use this, as it's better than buying it on iTunes.

Beware if allowing your kids to use this app. There are zero parental controls and content the will be able to download will be rated explicit 17+. They will also receive suggested material. The app allows explicit content even when parental controls are set on an iPhone.

There is an error in the review above [as of 8/27/13]. You do not need to link your Spotify account to a Facebook account. You can log in via Spotify. I just downloaded it to my pc and am listening for the first time - without connecting to FB. Other than that, I haven't explored enough to be able to say much about it. My 11 year old daughter is begging for it, to I'm checking it out.

I like Spotify in comparison to other music streaming apps with the exception of a very important issuecommercials do NOT take the target audience for music/artists/songs into account. I stream childrens music for my young daughter all day long, but have found myself running to turns ads down more and more because there is profanity and sexual content. The biggest offender is their various podcasts. I constantly thumbs down and explain my preferences, and yet these ads appear again and again. And I cant change any settings to fix it! I used Pandora for years as a classroom teacher and NEVER had this issue. If you are going to use Spotify around your kids or let your preteens/young teens use the app, as with all technology, make sure you are supervising them. You cant censor the whole internet, but paying attention goes a long way!

BEWARE! This app has PORN, not just PORN MUSIC, but sexually explicit podcasts and graphic images. The iPhone app does not restrict this as it's 12 +. Also, if you have the explicit content removed, when you click on something that IS explicit, the alert TELLS your child HOW TO REMOVE the explicit settings! I tell you this as a Spotify premium member too, I was so disappointed to learn how loose this was.

My daughter is currently in the hospital recovering from a tylenol overdose because of people on the Spotify app. She found a way people are communicating - creating playlists, changing the image to whatever they want, and then making their post in the playlist description. Others then reply using song titles. Three people claimed to be her friend then say they committed suicide, leading my daughter into a deep depression that made her want to follow her "friends". This is a great app when used with the Kids app or for adults, but I think the Kids app should be available a little longer - let our kids be kids. We didn't allow her social media, but kids will find a way.

Totally shocked and appalled by discovering porn podcasts are not sensored by the explicit content function. Explicit content only applies to songs . What on earth are Spotify thinking??? As of November 2020 they say they will pass on my complaint. I just cant believe that a whole load of porn in podcast from is not excluded when a song with the odd profanity is.

first off there is an option to block explicit songs under settings. I love this app I'm a premium user so I can download songs and listen to them offline and for those who have limited data plans this option is great

I hear some kids say that they can ignore inappropriate content. I think I trust that they can. I am fine if they listen to explicit music as long as they can ignore it.

The big turn off for Spotify has been the lack of an explicit lyrics filter. Though late to the game they rolled out one this year. It is currently only abailable with an individual paid account [Spotify Preminum] and not the family plan. I know but its new...expect the family plan to offer it once it can be applied to Spotify Connect. Connect is the function of having a spotify account you open on multiple devices. The primary device offers the filter. So it is limited for now but is available. Also remember the you can always search for the clean version of songs on the service. If you block explicit content you can still search for the clean versions. Hope that helps! My 14 year old likes it a lot. She can search the actual song she wants to hear AND download it for offline listening. Nice feature for "grounded from phone" days!

I made the mistake of paying for Spotify Premium for a month just to try it out, I canceled it later because it was not worth it in my mind just to listen to music without ads. A few months later, they started to charge my bank account multiple times a month for Spotify Premium when I did not ask for it. I had to cancel my debit card and get a new one because Spotify doesn't have a customer service that you can call. They also once you cancel continue to charge you again a few months later just to try to get away with robbing you of your money when you're not paying attention. This type of shady business relies on people who are busy with their lives and don't pay attention to every line in their bank account or people who don't want to spend the time and hassle of calling their banks to dispute the charges and get their money back. This is straight up robbery. Do not support this business in any way. Do not give your financial information to this company. DO NOT PAY FOR A PREMIUM SUBSCRIPTION ON SPOTIFY.

I'm a Green Day binger. I cannot thank Spotify enough for giving me this music. My job is making pizzas, I cannot afford to buy music [sorry GreenDay]. But I have my main joy in life because of Spotify. Can't thank this company enough.

Spotify has a large collection of music and great features for discovery. However, as a parent, it lacks one very important feature. You cannot block explicit content. There is no option and Spotify feels it promotes censorship. Other services like Apple Music and Google Play Music offer this simple feature.
