question

I wanted to install updates on my computer but whenever I open the windows update settings, it would only load with dots moving above. I cannot enable both the windows update medic service and windows update in the services. They are both disables and I cannot start them. A window saying "Access is denied" would always pop up when I try to set it to manual or automatic. I also changed the value of the Start DWORD to 1 but it would always return to 4. What can I do?

Hi
Maybe this solution be incorrect but i tested its and worked!

First Disable "stopupdates10guard" in "Task Manager "And "Sevices"
After it go to Run ( Press Win +R) and type regedit
then go
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WaaSMedicSvc.

and delete the" WaaSMedicSvc "

and now windows can update!

its may cause some problems such security problem's!maybe not! just it worked for me.
Because Change parameters from "4 "to "2" dont work and take error 87 - The parameters incorrect i deleted waasmedicsvc and it worked.
Good Luck

Hello,

Make sure dependency services such as Remote Procedure Call, RPC Endpoint Mapper are running.

Also, set the Start registry DWORD to 2 at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WaaSMedicSvc.

Hope this helps!

All of those dependency services you cited were all running, but I still cannot permanently change the DWORD value, it keeps on reverting to value 4.

Hello,

I did all of the things said in this comment, everything is running and the Start registry DWORD is set to 2.

The access to set the Windows Update Medic Service startup type on "Automatic" is still denied, I can manually press on "start" to have the Windows Update Medic Service run, but it does no difference. The Microsoft store works again, but I cannot access the update & security settings and like said above my access to the Windows Update Medic Service is denied.

Hi,
Might check out if the GPO settings were set:
Location: Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Windows Update.

Hi
first open task mgr.
end process stopupdates10guard
then disable stopupdates10guard in services.msc
Now follow what KapilArya said above. Now it won't change back to 4
Thank you

Hi, I just revisited this thread because I cannot download an app from the MS Store. What you instructed WORKED! I can download apps from the store again. However, Windows Update is still not working. It would just load infinitely with those dots moving in linear above.
