Nissan introduced an updated Armada for 2021, and this body-on-frame SUV that can carry seven or eight passengers is as formidable as its name suggests. The underpinnings remained the same, but the newest Armada has freshened this no-nonsense SUV and given it much-needed new tech including a quick and responsive touchscreen. The 5.6-liter V-8 engine and seven-speed automatic transmission are carryovers and standard across the line, but received a bit of a power boost and can still tow 8,500 pounds. The Toyota Sequoia is old. There's no getting around that—it's been on sale in much the same form since 2007. But what the Sequoia lacks in youth it makes up for in relative value. Its pricing window is narrow, and you can't spend much more than 70 grand on one, a rarity in the full-size SUV segment these days. A 5.7-liter V-8 engine is standard (it's the only engine available), leaving customers to choose their desired trim level and two- or four-wheel drive. The interior also is roomy, though the materials and design employed throughout will take you right back to the Bush presidency. Get a Sequoia because you're seeking a deal. The GMC Yukon (and its longer-wheelbase sibling, the Yukon XL) was all-new for 2021, featuring an independent rear suspension for the first time. By eschewing the old model's traditional and trucklike solid rear axle, GMC has given the Yukon's ride quality a big boost. For 2022, GMC adds an AT4 trim with the 6.2-liter V-8 engine. Unfortunately, the GMC, which seats seven to nine passengers, still straddles an odd middle-ground between the mechanically identical Chevy Tahoe/Suburban and the more luxurious Cadillac Escalade.
